Early Life

Virat Kohli was born on 5 November 1988 in Delhi. His mother and father are Saroj Kohli and Premji. He has his own brother, Vikas, and an elder sister, Bhavna. Kohli received his education from Vishal Bharti School. His father, Premji, was a lawyer and died in December 2006. He married Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma on 11 December 2017 in Italy. Since childhood, Virat Kohli had a natural talent to play cricket, which was closely seen by the people of his neighborhood. On the suggestion of Neighbours, his father enrolled him in the West Delhi Cricket Academy so that he could get professional training and further develop his cricketing abilities. [19] Kohli came into the limelight when he was playing for Delhi in a Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka on the day of his father’s death. He is a middle-order batsman and also a right-arm medium pace bowler. He represents Delhi in first-class cricket and is the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He has also played for the West Delhi Cricket Academy. He holds the record for the fastest century by an Indian batsman. Kohli is India’s most successful Test captain. Under his captaincy, the Indian team has won the most 40 out of 68 Tests. Virat Kohli resigned from the captaincy of the Test by tweeting suddenly on the evening of 15 January 2022. Initial year –

Kohli made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2008. Prior to the Sri Lankan tour, Kohli had played only eight List A matches, and his selection was called a “surprise call-up”. During the Sri Lankan tour, first-option openers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag were injured, with Kohli batting as a fast opener throughout the series. They had a DI series win. He made his international debut in the first ODI of the tour at the age of 19 and was out for 12. International Career –

After 100 in the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia in 2008, Kohli was selected in the ODI squad for Sri Lanka’s tour of India in 2008. Both Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag were injured when Kohli made his One Day International debut against Sri Lanka in the Idea Cup in 2008. In his first match, he scored 12 runs. He scored his first half-century in the fourth match, He scored 54 and helped India win the series. This was India’s first ODI series win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. 2011 Cricket World Cup –

Kohli was more favourite than Raina in the 2011 Cricket World Cup and became the first Indian cricketer to score a century in his World Cup debut match. He scored 59 against the West Indies and shared a 122-run partnership with Yuvraj Singh. His 83-run partnership for the third wicket with Gautam Gambhir played a key role in India’s victory in the final chasing their runs against Sri Lanka. He scored 282 runs in 9 innings at an average of 35.25 in the 2011 World Cup.

Start of Test career –

India toured the West Indies in June and July 2011, when the BCCI picked an inexperienced squad. Sachin Tendulkar took rest in the series and Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag were dropped from the team due to injury. Kohli was one of the three new players in the Test squad. Kohli was not selected in the team till the last match of the Test series but was selected for the final match. The final match ended in a draw. And India won the Test series 2–0. India won the ODI series 4-1 and Kohli managed to score 243 runs at an average of 60.75 with the highest score of 117.

Australia Test series and CB series 2012 –

Kohli was included in India’s squad for the tour of Australia in December 2011. After the first Test in Melbourne, he felt his position in the team was in danger and during the second Test in Sydney, Kohli expressed his anger at the fans of the Sydney Cricket Ground who were insulting him, for which he was fined fifty percent of his match fee. In an interview after the incident, he said,”In ODIs, eight centuries cannot be scored temporarily. I don’t know why people question my technique or temperament. It’s all a learning curve for me. I’m playing in Australia, on a tough wicket.” India lost the series 4-0 and Kohli was the top scorer for India in this series. 2012 Asia Cup –

He was made the vice-captain of the Indian ODI team for the Asia Cup in March 2012. He scored 183 off 148 balls against Pakistan in the fifth match of the Asia Cup 2012. New Zealand tour of India in 2012 –

In two Test matches, he scored 212 runs at an average of 106, including a century and two half-centuries. Kohli scored his second Test century in the second Test match in Bangalore.
