Born on January 26, 1983, in Punjab, India, Deepinder studied at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi from 2000-2005. Deepinder Goyal’s mother and father worked as a teacher. After graduating from IIT Delhi, he worked as a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company in New Delhi. While working in this company He realised that there was a lot of demand for menu cards among his colleagues. It was from here that he got the idea to start Zomato. After this, he left his job at Bain & Company and started his entrepreneurial journey in 2008 by starting his own food startup ‘Foodiebay’ with Pankaj Chadha, although he changed the name of Foodiebay to Zomato in 2010.

Deepinder Goyal is the founder and CEO of Zomato, one of India’s largest restaurant aggregator and food delivery service. Along with India, Zomato is present in more than 24 countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka, Qatar, UK, Indonesia and many other countries. Deepinder Goyal is trying to promote startup culture in India. He has so far invested in 16 startups like ChefKart and Unacademy, Squadstack, Bira 91, Hypertrak, Terrado, among others.

Deepinder Goyal was born on 26 January 1983 in Muktsar, Punjab, and is now 40 years old in 2023. Deepinder belongs to a Punjabi family. Deepinder was born in a family where there was an atmosphere of study, because both Deepinder’s parents were teachers. Deepinder Goyal has also focused on studies since childhood.

After completing his 12th standard, Deepinder Goyal studied for the “IIT” examination and passed the ‘IIT’ examination in the first attempt. Deepinder Goyal lives in Delhi with his family. Deepinder Goyal is survived by his parents, wife and children. The name of Deepinder’s parents is not known. Deepinder Goyal’s mother and father were both teachers. Deepinder Goyal is married. Deepinder Goyal’s wife’s name is Kanchan Joshi. They also have a daughter named Sierra Goyal. Deepinder Goyal has a love marriage. He first met Kanchan Joshi while studying at IIT Delhi, and since then their relationship started.

Deepinder Goyal was born in a middle-class family in Mutsar district of Punjab in which both his mother and father were teachers but his mind was never interested in studies. As a result, he failed in Class 6. After this, he came to class 8, in which he got good marks in the whole class by copying by the teacher and stood first. Then he also passed class 9 and 10.
After that, he enrolled in DAV School in Chandigarh, where he again failed in Class 11, but he did not lose courage and worked hard day and night to pass Class 11 and 12 with good marks. Not only this, with his passion and hard work, he passed the IIT entrance examination in one go and took admission in IIT Delhi. In 2005, he obtained an Integrated MTech degree in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Delhi and married Bain & Company. And then in 2007, he married Kanchan Joshi, who was his classmate at IIT Delhi.
The story of the start-up associated with the Startup –
Despite having a good job, Deepinder Goyal was always looking for new business ideas. Once during an office lunch, his attention was drawn to the long queue of people who worked with him to place orders by looking at the menu of the office cafeteria, who were waiting for their turn in a queue in a queue, which was wasting everyone’s time. To solve this problem, he resorted to technology and scanned the menu of the cafeteria and created a website and put it online, which people liked very much.
Just from here, the idea of a startup came to his mind, in which he had to create an online website in which any person would get information about hotels and restaurants located in any city. After this, he started his startup scheme with one of his friends Pankaj Chadda in the year 2008 while working with the online food website Foodiebay.com. The focus of their website was that information about the highest hotels and restaurants based on location, popularity and rate should be available to customers His startup idea started and soon the number of restaurants in foodiebay.com reached 2000 and it became the largest restaurant directory in Delhi NCR. By the year 2010, hotels and restaurants in many cities of the country had joined his website.

After this, in the year 2010, the foodiebay.com itself was converted into zomato.com. This is where Zomato’s story begins.
Now the company needed capital for which investors were needed, only Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chadda started looking for investors and soon they found many investors to grow their company. Soon he also launched Zomato’s mobile application, after which today his zomato.com is providing its service in about 10000 cities in about 24 countries like UAE, Sri Lanka, Qatar, United Kingdom, Philippines, South Africa.
